I have no idea what I’m doing here.

OK, so that’s something of an exaggeration, but I figured that’s as good a way as any to start my first Substack entry. (Kinda helps temper expectations, ya know?)

The goal of this thing is going to be geared toward keeping you up-to-date on my appearances; basically, what I’m doing on a daily basis covering the Patriots for The Boston Globe, as well as the radio, podcast, and (occasional) TV work I do, mostly in the name of football coverage.

But I’m also interested in writing about weird shit that occasionally catches my fancy that I think you might enjoy, as well as some fun behind-the-scenes journalism stories, travel stuff, tales from the press box, and whatever else might come across my radar screen. As always, send me your questions, thoughts, complaints, etc., and I’ll answer as many of them as possible. If things go well, we might put together some meetups in cities on the road. Especially if you promise to buy me a coffee.

Oh yeah, make sure to subscribe, so you don’t miss a thing. It’s gonna be fun. I promise.

Cool stuff I did this week.

• I spent some quality time talking Patriots-Bills with “Toucher & Hardy” on Thursday morning.

• My podcast partner Chris Hogan and I recorded our weekly show, which included a look back at the bye, ahead to the Bills, as well as a detour into some unique uses for the blue medical tent. That’s where things kind of went off the rails.

I talked New England-Buffalo with Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana from “Bleav in Bills.” An informative 30-plus minutes on what should be one of the biggest games of the year.

• With the bye week in the rearview, New England’s health is trending in the right direction. Looks like they’re gonna get Jared Wilson, Khyiris Tonga, and Brenden Schooler back this week.

• I was the interview subject for Friday’s “Starting Point” newsletter that focused on New England’s 2025 resurgence. Fun new thing with the news side.

• Two other stories from Friday that appeared in Saturday’s paper: one on Stefon Diggs serving as a mentor/teacher to Bills cornerback Christian Benford. And two, recalling last year’s clown show of a ballgame between the Patriots and Bills at Gillette. The Joe Milton Affair.

Looking ahead.

The Patriots are home Sunday against the Bills, which means I’ll be at Gillette Stadium for much of the day. Monday, I’m scheduled to appear on the Boston Globe Sports Report with my colleague Ben Volin (presumably) talking about the fallout from New England-Buffalo. Tuesday, my podcast partner and I will get after it with a review of what happened Sunday, and a look ahead to Patriots-Ravens. I’ll also open up the Boston Globe Mailbag for your best questions. And I’ll be heading to Eastern Maryland on Saturday afternoon (via the Acela!) for Sunday’s contest.

One last thing.

My much better half (who wrote an amazing memoir that was released in August) and I will be doing an in-store event together on Feb. 11 at Wellesley Books. If you want to come, you’ve got to buy tickets here. I will not only sign copies of my latest book,”Bleeding Green” (now in paperback!), but any of my other books. It’s a great excuse to support your local indie bookstore. As always, my books are on sale. Check out my Amazon page with all seven of them here. If you have a copy of my book when you see me, the law requires I have to stop and sign. Those are the rules.

Until next time.
